(EL SEGUNDO, Calif.) May 23, 2022 – Radiology Partners (RP), a leading radiology practice in the U.S., announced an innovative care coordination pilot program led by its Clinical Value Team (CVT) in collaboration with Austin, Texas-based practice, ARA Diagnostic Imaging. The program combines RP’s proprietary best practice recommendation process with artificial intelligence (AI) to identify and connect specific data points during a patient’s visit. The data is then used to generate reminders to patients and caregivers alike with the goal of improving the rate of recommended follow-up care. To conduct the pilot, RP partnered with Rad AI, a radiologist-led AI solutions company. Further, RP was recently chosen to participate in the first cohort of the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) Learning Network initiative as one of four sites chosen nationwide to focus on recommendations follow-up. This pilot, which was already in development, is part of the ACR program.
“Combining the power of clinical best practices with AI, we are able to provide timely notifications to both patients and providers, which increases access to high-quality care in all areas of medicine, not just within radiology,” said Dr. Krishna Nallamshetty, RP’s Associate Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Value. “This program is an excellent example of how the CVT is working to elevate patient care and enhance value through innovation, collaboration and education.”
According to the ACR, up to 10 percent of all radiology reports contain follow-up recommendations for incidental findings, and approximately half of those recommended follow-up exams are not followed through. Through this pilot program and participation in the ACR Learning Network, RP’s CVT will help shape and define ways to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of follow-up recommendation communication and tracking nationwide. Powered by RP’s evidence-based clinical best practice guidelines and Rad AI’s Continuity follow-up coordination platform, the program will create efficiencies to decrease the risk of missed diagnoses and improve patient outcomes.
“Radiologists are well-positioned to drive care coordination, serving as a conduit to nearly all other medical specialties,” said Dr. Jeff Chang, emergency radiologist, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer for Rad AI. “We understand the vital role of radiologists, and through our AI solutions, we help empower the specialty by unlocking opportunity for even greater efficiencies.”
Rad AI Continuity closes the loop on follow-up recommendations for incidental findings in radiology reports. Using AI-driven automation, Continuity ensures appropriate patient follow-up is communicated, ordered, scheduled and completed. Continuity integrates directly into health systems’ and ambulatory EHRs, and its platform works seamlessly with outpatient imaging centers. These methods bring advanced sophistication to existing systems with potential to serve all healthcare settings.
“Our practice is thrilled to partner with RP’s national Clinical Value Team and our technology partners at Rad AI,” said Dr. Gregory Connor, President of ARA Diagnostic Imaging and member of RP’s Board of Directors. “This program positions RP, ARA Diagnostic Imaging and Rad AI as leaders in follow-up recommendations management and serves as an example of the innovation and added value radiologists bring to the healthcare ecosystem.”
The CVT will utilize the insights from the pilot and lessons learned through the ACR cohort to expand care coordination programs to additional RP practices across the country, increasing efficiencies and elevating patient care at scale.
