Rapid expansion is common reaching maximum size at 36 hours resulting in neurologic deficits and death in up to 5% due to herniations.

Practical Insights

• • Common “lucid interval” in up to 50% of cases.
  • Typically associated with arterial laceration, but up to 10% are venous.
  • Consider CTV if collection crosses suture.
  • Bilateral EDH have up to 15-20% mortality rate.

Takeaway: Use bone window to look for fracture.
