By Rich Whitney, Chairman and CEO, and Dr. Anthony Gabriel, COO
Today is National Doctors Day. Under normal circumstances, we would acknowledge the day with a cheerful message about physician appreciation. This year, that simply won’t do.
In this unique time of a global health crisis and worldwide stress and uncertainty, the importance of physicians—and truly, our entire medical community—is at the forefront. Doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators, support teams and so many others are on the frontlines of a global pandemic, continuing to serve patients, families and entire communities across our nation and globe during a time of heightened systemic strain, pressure and risk.
No—a jovial “Happy Doctors Day” message won’t cut it this year. This year, we respectfully honor our physicians—RP radiologists and all physicians in every specialty. It is deeply humbling to reflect on the personal sacrifices physicians and other clinicians are making today (and every day) to ensure our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, children, friends and neighbors receive safe and excellent care. We do not take their expertise, labor and sacrifice for granted. This Doctors Day, we pause to not only thank our physician colleagues, but to also salute them. Thank you for your continued commitment to patients and families who need you now more than ever.
Tell us how you are Coping with COVID
As the COVID-19 crisis continues, this is an unprecedented time for our country, our healthcare systems and certainly our specialty. In the midst of rapidly evolving circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and the global response to the virus outbreak, our highest priority remains—to care for patients, serve our clients and take care of our teams.
We want to know: how are you coping with COVID-19?
Perhaps your answer is light-hearted, as we all navigate a new reality of social distancing, remote work, homeschooling children and searching for the ever-elusive pack of toilet paper.
Or, perhaps your answer is deeply thoughtful as you ponder both the short- and long-term implications this crisis will have on our broader healthcare system. Perhaps you are part of a local, regional or national team working diligently together in this time of crisis to mitigate risk, manage the physical and emotional strain of the crisis or simply locate desperately needed PPE.
Perhaps someone you know is ill, and this crisis carries a heavy, profoundly personal burden.
Your story matters. Personal stories carry the power to bring us closer together in times of crisis. Share your story and photos of coping with COVID here.
