Why RP? Q&A with Dr. Jason Fox, General Radiologist

Dr. Jason Fox discusses his path to radiology, how the field has evolved and how RP’s investment in technology will help shape the future of radiology.

Dr. Jason Fox is a remote general radiologist based in Columbus, Ohio. He joined Matrix at RP in 2021. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling and skiing. We talked to Dr. Fox about his path to radiology, how the field has evolved and how RP’s investment in technology will help shape the future of radiology.

When I went through medical school, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I had a Navy scholarship, so I knew I was going in the Navy. During my internship at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, I was in a car wreck with severe injuries that left me temporarily immobile, making it extremely hard to do rounds. During that time, one of the radiologists took me under his wing and after completing a few rotations with him, I realized radiology was the right path for me. The rest is history.

Do you have a subspecialty? If so, what drew you to that subspecialty?

When I was in the Navy, there weren’t many mammographers, and there were a lot of dependents to take care of. I was put into the role as a mammographer, got pretty good at it, enjoyed it and continued in that role.

What are some of the unique features that RP offers that are hard to find elsewhere?

One thing that sets RP apart is the systems we use to read. The AI systems running in the background are extremely helpfulit’s sped me up quite a bit.

How has the field of radiology evolved since you first started your career?

There’s a limited number of radiologists and programs producing them. Decreased reimbursements for physicians are exacerbating the problem, leading to fewer people entering radiology. We need to enhance our radiologists’ workflows with AI assistance and other tools to help us continue to serve our patients well.

I started when we were still hanging film. Then PACS came along, which sped things up because you didn’t have to handle physical films. Computer-aided detection (CAD) for mammography, which looks for masses and calcifications, was the earliest type of AI we used and helped us confirm we weren’t overlooking calcifications. Now, AI helps with detecting C-spine fractures, PEs, rib fractures and more, saving time and increasing confidence in our readings.

When did you join Matrix at RP?

I joined in 2021. It was a big change from working in a hospital setting to working from home, but it was a good changeWith Matrix, I have my own workstation, which I can customize to be more efficient.

Tell me about the committee you are involved in?

We started doing quality assurance with ultrasound, CT and radiology techs. Many of the hospitals we work with are smaller, regional hospitals that don’t have a radiologist onsite. We’ve set up a system to collect examples of studies with artifacts to share with our techs. If a radiologist sees something wrong, they hit a teaching folder button to document, for example, a jewelry artifact or detector artifacts in the study, if there was a reformat problem or the bolus wasn’t given. This allows the team to sort, quantify what’s going on and track these issues, which has significantly improved compliance and overall quality.

What are some of the unique features Matrix at RP offers that are hard to find elsewhere?

As a radiologist who reads remotely, I appreciate the opportunity for some geographical flexibility. For example, if you prefer to snowbird – and have the proper state licenses – then Matrix at RP could be a great fit for you. In my case, that flexibility allowed me to spend the summer closer to my daughter while working my regular schedule.

Dr. Jason Fox earned his medical degree from Medical College of Ohio; completed his residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School; and served in the U.S. Navy.

Radiology Partners Unveils Mosaic Clinical Technologies™ and MosaicOS™

A next-generation operating system for smarter, scalable imaging services, where clinical expertise, advanced AI technology and cutting-edge innovation converge seamlessly

(EL SEGUNDO, Calif.) July 15, 2025Radiology Partners (RP), the leading provider of technology-enabled radiology services in the U.S., announced today the launch of its new technology services division, Mosaic Clinical Technologies™ and MosaicOS™ a proprietary, radiologist-driven platform designed to address emergent challenges facing the specialty, including rising imaging demand and a growing capacity gap. MosaicOS™, a fully cloud- and AI-native operating system, seamlessly merges diagnostic technologies, AI-powered tools and smart workflows into a single scalable solution. This iterative, next generation architecture offers radiologists innovative new tools enhancing their ability to deliver excellent patient care faster and more accurately.

“MosaicOS™ represents an urgent call from our specialty,” said Dr. Nina Kottler, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Clinical AI at RP. “Demand is growing. Worklists are getting longer. While the pace of AI innovation is exciting, fragmented technologies create friction, forcing radiologists to toggle between systems and duplicate tasks, ultimately slowing care. MosaicOS™ rewrites the rules, connecting AI, clinical expertise and scalable technology into a single solution that empowers radiologists, restores focus to patient care and signals our commitment to shaping the future of our specialty.”

As imaging volumes rise, the radiologist shortage grows and costs escalate at unprecedented rates, hospitals and imaging centers across the country are under pressure to do more with less, often without the tools or service levels needed to keep pace. MosaicOS™ represents RP’s investment in solving this nationwide challenge. By streamlining operations and improving clinical capacity at scale, MosaicOS™ helps imaging providers enhance clinical outcomes while alleviating costs pressures, staffing challenges and workflow inefficiencies.

MosaicOS™ is the only enterprise imaging solution designed by radiologists and developed by the largest collection of radiology-focused technology and AI professionals in the U.S. Purpose-built to support the future of imaging, MosaicOS™ offers customers of RP and Mosaic Clinical Technologies the ability to:

  • Unlock clinical capacity through advanced, integrated tools and AI-native design.
  • Accelerate and improve clinical quality and care delivery while reducing IT burden through rapid cloud-based deployment, enabling measurable impact in weeks, not months.
  • Deliver an intuitive, AI-driven experience that amplifies radiologist expertise and improves communication, clinical quality and care coordination.
  • Turn operational challenges into a competitive edge, designed to integrate with or replace imaging management and storage technologies, unlocking clinical impact, scalability and cost savings. Continually enhanced through leading clinical AI tools, MosaicOS™ helps our client partners grow, scale and lead in their communities.

“Radiology is already the most tech-enabled segment of healthcare, and RP is at the forefront of driving a new era of technology and AI transformation,” said Rich Whitney, RP CEO and Board Chair. “With a market leadership position, a unique collection of clinical and technical talent and the capital to invest aggressively, we see this not only as an opportunity but as our responsibility. We are driven to create innovative solutions that have transformative and lasting impact for our patients, client partners and radiologists. MosaicOS™ will enable us to innovate, iterate and improve imaging care at an accelerated pace.”

MosaicOS™ initial advanced features lay the groundwork to modernize imaging care.

  • Mosaic Reporting: Combines ambient voice AI and large language model (LLM) technology to automatically structure reports, drastically reducing dictation time while allowing radiologists to spend more time focusing on the images. Mosaic Reporting is already live at multiple RP-affiliated practices, with a broader rollout planned throughout 2025–2026.
  • Mosaic Drafting: Applies a multimodal AI foundation model to pre-draft x-ray reports enabling radiologists to review, edit and sign. Streamlining routine tasks allows physicians to dedicate more time to complex, high-value work, enhancing both clinical quality and physician satisfaction. Mosaic Drafting is currently being implemented under Institutional Review Board protocols while actively pursuing FDA approval to support broader use and commercial availability.

Additional tools, including a centralized patient information hub with cutting-edge AI capabilities designed to streamline physician workflow and enhance clinical quality, will debut later this year, with many more innovations to follow as MosaicOS™ continues to expand its capabilities.

“MosaicOS™ is foundational to delivering on our promise of clinical excellence and our mission to transform radiology,” said Dr. Krishna Nallamshetty, Chief Medical Officer at RP. “This innovation isn’t just about simplifying workflows; it’s about unlocking clinical potential. By empowering radiologists to practice at the top of their license, MosaicOS™ allows radiologists to lead the specialty forward and set new standards for patient care while pioneering a model that can elevate the role of radiology in the healthcare system.”

Throughout 2025 and 2026, MosaicOS™ will be strategically implemented by a team of clinical and technology experts to ensure continuity of patient care across RP’s national network of affiliated practices and key strategic clients. At every stage, its iterative design will allow for ongoing enhancements based on insights from physicians and alignment with client partners, ensuring the platform is continually shaped to empower the delivery of clinical excellence and improvement of patient care.

As MosaicOS™ continues to evolve, RP will further expand access to the platform commercially, offering it to hospitals, health systems and imaging centers. This step reflects RP’s commitment to raising the standard of imaging care across the specialty, not just within its affiliated practices. Radiology Partners Strengthens Financial Flexibility and Extends Debt Maturities with Successful Refinancing

(EL SEGUNDO, Calif.) July 1, 2025Radiology Partners (RP), the leading provider of technology-enabled radiology services in the U.S., today announced the successful refinancing of its first-lien debt, extending its maturities through 2032 and enhancing its capital structure to support continued growth and innovation. The transaction replaces approximately $2.3 billion in first-lien debt at an attractive cost of capital. This move further strengthens RP’s financial position and builds upon a series of strategic steps the practice has taken to fortify its balance sheet and support its long-term mission.

“This refinancing reflects both strong financial performance and the confidence investors and lenders have in RP’s business model and strategy,” said Rich Whitney, RP CEO and Board Chair. “This transaction positions us to continue investing in patient care, technology innovation and strategic growth.”

Over the past 18 months, RP has:

  • Secured nearly $750 million in new growth equity—one of the largest healthcare equity raises in the past three years—demonstrating strong investor confidence.
  • Extended maturities of senior debt from 2025 to 2032 through back-to-back strategic transactions, strengthening long-term financial flexibility and access to capital.
  • Earned credit rating upgrades from both S&P and Moody’s while reducing leverage, reinforcing RP’s commitment to disciplined financial management and maintaining a capital structure that supports longer-term business objectives.

These steps enable continued investment in AI and advanced technology, expansion into new client sites and geographies and long-term partnerships focused on continuity of care and clinical value.

“RP is on a strong financial and operational trajectory,” Whitney added. “We are focused on delivering for our patients, physician partners and clients—and this transaction ensures we have the capital resources to do just that for many years to come.”
